Biografie - Ekaterina Levental

Ekaterina Levental werd geboren in Tasjkent, de hoofdstad van Oezbekistan, een der republieken van de voormalige Sovjet Unie. Zij studeerde zang aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag en harp aan de Conservatoria van Enschede, Detmold (Duitsland) en Rotterdam. Voor beide behaalde zij het Master Diploma met onderscheiding. Haar docenten waren o.a. Barbara Pearson, Maria Acda, Diane Forlano, Meinard Kraak en Rita Dams (zang) en Germaine Lorenzini, Godelieve Schrama, Catherine Michel en Alex Bonnet (harp). Ze volgde Masterclasses en workshops bij onder andere Nelly Miricioiu, Charlotte Margiono, Christoph Prégardien en Jard van Nes.

Duo Bilitis

Samen met harpiste Eva Tebbe vormt ze een succesvol duo genaamd duo Bilitis. Duo Bilitis heeft sinds de oprichting in 2004 naam gemaakt door de bijzondere bezetting, boeiende en spraakmakende programma’s en intense samenspel. De combinatie van twee harpen en zang waarborgt een grote afwisseling. Hun repertoire wordt gevormd door de originele composities en eigen arrangementen uit alle stijlperiodes.

Hedendaagse componisten zoals Jeff Hamburg, Chiel Meijering, Gerard Beljon, Boudewijn Tarenskeen, Lowell Dijkstra, Daan Manneke, Oene van Geel, Huba de Graaff en Gijs Dijk hebben voor dit duo werken geschreven en gewijd. Het duo is de winnaar van het Internationaal Kamermuziekconcours Almere 2008, de 5de Editie van het Uitmarkt Kamermuziekconcours Amsterdam en de finalist van de The 15th International Jewish Music Festival/Competition Amsterdam 2010. Duo Bilitis bracht in 2008 haar debuut CD ‘Le Jardin Féerique’ uit op het label "Brilliant Classics" met de muziek van Debussy, Franck, Ravel en Fauré. In 2011 brengen ze bij dezelfde label hun tweede CD ‘L’Heure Espagnole’ met de werken van Granados, Ravel, de Falla en Montsalvatge.

Ekaterina bespeelt Salvi harp die haar ter beschikking werd gesteld door Het Nationaal Muziekinstrumenten Fonds dankzij een gift van de Stichting Levi Lassen.

Solo

Als soliste in het concert- en oratoriumrepertoire trad ze op in belangrijke zalen in Nederland en buitenland waaronder in het Concertgebouw Amsterdam, de Philharmonie Haarlem, Anton Philipszaal Den Haag, Steinbruch Ibbenbüren (Duitsland) met oratoria van onder andere Pergolesi, Mozart, Beethoven, Rossini, Vivaldi, Duruflé en Poulenc.

Momenteel maakt zij deel uit van de vaste kern van VocaalLab o.l.v. Romain Bisschoff, Internationale werkplaats en productiehuis voor zangers en componisten.
Haar toekomstige producties zijn muziektheaterproductie "De Gehangenen" (co-productie VocaalLab en LOD Gent, muziek Jan Kuijken, tekst en regie Josse de Pauw) en Beggar’s Opera (Opera Nijetrijne, muziek John Gay, regie Arne Sybren Postma).

Biography - Ekaterina Levental

Ekaterina Levental was born in Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan, one of the republics of the former Soviet Union. Ekaterina moved to Holland in 1993 where she continued her studies on the harp at the Conservatories in Enschede, Rotterdam and Detmold (Germany) with teachers Alex Bonnet, Godelieve Schrama and Catherine Michel.

Due to a scholarship granted her by the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds and the Fonds voor Podium- en Amateurkunsten she continued her studies with Germaine Lorenzini in Lyon (France). After graduating for her harp studies she followed her passion for singing and started a new study Classical Singing at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. Ekaterina finished both studied Cum Laude. She studied singing with Rita Dams, Meinard Kraak, Barbara Pearson and Diane Forlano and followed workshops and Master classes with Nelly Miricioiu, Charlotte Margiono, Christoph PrÉgardien and Jard van Nes.

Duo Bilitis

The last 5 years Ekaterina forms a successful duo called "Duo Bilitis" with the harpist Eva Tebbe. Right from the start the duo’s focus has been to find and create new music for all combinations between harps and voice. Their repertoire consists of music from the Baroque to the great impressionists and contemporary music, which has been specially written and arranged for the duo. Composers such as Jeff Hamburg, Chiel Meijering, Gerard Beljon, Boudewijn Tarenskeen, Daan Manneke, Lowell Dijkstra, Huba de Graaff, Oene van Geel and Gijs Dijk have written for and dedicated their pieces to this duo.

Duo Bilitis performed during numerous chamber music series and music festivals in Holland and abroad.The duo is the winner of International Music Chamber Competition Almere 2008, the Uitmarkt Chamber Music Competition Amsterdam 2008 and the finalist of the 15th International Jewish Music Festival/Competition 2010.
The duo released their debut CD "Le Jardin Fèerique" in 2008 with the works by Debussy, Franck, Ravel and Faurè" at the label Brilliant Classics/Foreign Media. In 2011 they will release their second CD "L’Heure Espagnole" with the works by Granados, De Falla, Ravel and Montsalvatge.

As a soloist in the concert, opera and oratorium repertoire Ekaterina performed at reknowned halls, theaters and venues in the Netherlands and abroad, such as Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Philharmonie Haarlem, Anton Philipszaal Den Haag and Steinbruch Ibbenbüren (Germany) with the works of Pergolesi, Mozart, Vivaldi, Beethoven, Rossini, Poulenc and Duruflé.
